The 2019 LAMP Conference for financial services leaders held at the Gaylord Texan this week was so special, that it seemed only fitting that we do a special edition for all LAMP attendees to bring back memories and to inspire more people to attend.
To start with, we were proud to sponsor DANICA PATRICK who, after arriving in her private plane, would have made her racecar fans proud with her stellar speech and interview! It’s not easy to hold the attention of over 2000 leaders from around the world, but they were almost spellbound with her candid stories, humility, struggles and victories, dry humor and self-confidence. I also loved her commitment to fitness, yoga and teamwork and to excelling and some of her quotes, like “If you work out and you don’t sweat, did you really work out?” And, “Don’t try to be like someone else or live their dreams…you have to be your own person and follow your own dreams!” In addition to having her own clothing line now, she has her own vineyard in Napa Valley called SOMNIUM WINE which, I believe, means “dream” in Latin. Kudos to Danica for living her dreams…and thank you for the inspiration!
If you are in the financial services industry and did not attend the LAMP Conference by GAMA International this year, I’d highly recommend it next March! It was the 20th consecutive year we attended and exhibited, and is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn and network, as well as to see old friends and make new ones! With over 2000 leaders under one roof, the opportunities are endless to connect with people whether it’s at the general session, breakouts, meetings, dinners or just roaming around! Attending were the “WHO’S WHO” of the industry, icons and legends like Maury Stewart (Penn Mutual), Harry Hoops (NML, now HPN), Ken Gallacher (American National) and Joe Jordan, a veteran industry leader who is also the author of “LIVING A LIFE OF SIGNIFICANCE”. I also saw other leaders like Paul LaPiana, Paul Blanco and Peter Novak, all with MassMutual; Pete was inducted this year into the Hall of Fame plus so many others like Jim Effner who is now on the speaking circuit. LAMP has to be the best event of-its-kind where you will see representatives from member companies like Prudential, AXA Advisors, Penn Mutual, Securian, Country Financial and others, as well as fraternal companies like Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Life, Foresters Financial and many others! I really do hope you attend in 2020!!
Now, back to the car! During my introduction of Danica, I told the audience that “I love cars!”, especially high-performance ones! I actually owned 13 cars before I left high school and have owned 80 cars in my lifetime and, this is one of them. It’s the first year) of the Dodge Challenger retro in 2008 and a limited edition; they only made 6400 and this is number 1789.
But my love for cars and racing wasn’t the only reason we decided to sponsor the speech of one of the most successful female racecar drivers in U. S. history or because Danica is one of the most recognizable professional athletes in the country. No, it was because these three things are just as important in Race Car Driving as they are in Activity Management and building your own business…and here they are:
SET GOALS – KEEP SCORE – WORK AS A TEAM
Race Car Drivers have goals before and during every race, they track performance statistics far beyond laps, average speed, wins, losses, average finish and points. And you can be sure that “No one succeeds alone”, just as in our business. That is also why we created the SAM Suite to make it easy for Producers and Sales Teams Set goals, Keep score and Work as a team. If you’d like more information, please visit TheSAMSuite.com.
We hope you enjoyed this special edition. If you would like to receive this weekly complimentary email, you can visit our website…or just reply to me now if that makes it easier. All past editions are also on SalesActivityManagement.com under SAM Moments.
