Hello and welcome to SAM Moments! I’d also like to thank you for being one of the first one thousand people to sign up for this free email designed to inspire and educate you about Sales Activity Management, otherwise known as SAM.

Even after 25 years, we still consider it to be the MOST EMPOWERING CONCEPT IN THE WORLD with sales and life in general. Because activities produce results and only you control activity, God willing, you have the power to control your future.

Today, I’d like to introduce you to SAM’s Cousin: HABITS.

What are Habits? Habits are those wonderful things or activities that we do every day by reflex with little or no aforethought. Habit is a noun and defined by Merriam-Webster as “an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary.” They are the habitual things we do without thinking about them, whether it has to do with personal hygiene or how you tie your shoe, or how you drive your car or how you perform at work.

Habits are all about activity and they are especially vital in a career. It is so closely related to Sales Activity Management, that it’s probably a first cousin?

Speaking of which, have you ever heard about “The Common Denominator of Success”? It was a famous speech by Dr. Albert E. N. Gray at a Prudential insurance conference in Philadelphia. Here it is:

The Common Denominator of Success:

Successful people form the habit of doing things that failures don’t like to do.

Dr. Gray’s quote about habits applies to any career and is just as true today as the day he wrote it in 1940. Some habits are good, and some are bad. (If you want to identify your own, just ask your spouse or loved ones! They are a double-edged sword: Good habits will make you; Bad habits will break you. Make a list of your good habits…i.e. set goals & keep score, and the bad habits you want to break…before they break you!

The Common Denominator of Success is still the most quoted speech in the industry and, in my opinion, it’s a must-read for every agent or advisor and you should re-read it once a year!
