Before we get started, I have two confessions to make. First, I need Activity Management, which is why I was so attracted to it in the first place. It’s too easy for me to get distracted and I think a lot of salespeople do, too? I think that I also found it because I was looking for a way…to prove somebody wrong. He was a fellow insurance salesman who I looked up to and seemed to have it all; a beautiful home, wife and family, Armani suits, driving a Cadillac back in the day and sporting a Rolex. But he didn’t have much confidence in my sales ability and gave me a shot one day when he said, “Mickey, Salesmen are born, not made.” Well, eighteen months later, he was gone, and I took over his block of business…and it wasn’t because of my selling skills! It was by developing my Activity Management skills which helped me be much more focused, organized, disciplined and motivated.
Last week, you learned that Sales Activity Management is based on a simple truth, WE REAP WHAT WE SOW and your income in sales depends on it. It’s a law, “Activity will always a result” much like the Law of Gravity, “What goes up must come down.”
It’s logical that if you improve activities, more reaping follows, but you not only need to buy into it intellectually, you need to EMBRACE IT emotionally because it applies to everything, from brushing your teeth to selling activities and even racing cars which many of us are going to hear about at an upcoming insurance conference.
I have an exercise for you to help you buy into it emotionally: Repeat after me, “I reap what I sow”. Let’s try it again: “I reap what I sow”. That statement is your ticket to freedom! You see, by saying it you are taking personal responsibility for your actions and your results. No longer a victim of circumstance, you are taking control and being accountable for your business and have the freedom to achieve any goal in life.
It is your own Declaration of Independence and it’s why I chose to wear my Declaration of Independence tie today…to remind both of us that the “Power is in the Concept. EMBRACE IT! Hope you can join us EVERY week on Day 3 at 3 which will eventually even be on your time zone. Remember, “Control your activity and you control your life.”
