Activity Management Best Practices: The Power of Compounding

Sometimes our most valuable lessons come from unexpected places. This month the best activity management tip that I learned didn’t come from our industry…it came from a Reiki practitioner, which is a unique form of Japanese massage that addresses energy fields.
One of the many topics we discussed was the need for keeping our core (abdominal muscles) strong. (Okay, so she probably noticed my gut.) She strongly encouraged me to start doing fifty (50) sit-ups per day. I know that doesn’t sound like much and doesn’t take more than a few minutes a day, but that’s fifty more than I had been doing. And after just seven days, I did three hundred and fifty (350). If I keep it up for twelve months…I would end up doing eighteen thousand and two hundred (18,200 sit-ups)…a number that is staggering to me!
How does that relate to activity management and our industry? Besides being a great example of the power of compounding (something we can all relate to), it epitomizes activity management at its finest. By zeroing in on that one high-payoff activity and executing on it each day, week and month, it helps you stay focused, in control and get tremendous results!
So, what is your highest-payoff activity that you know that if you just did it every day…you would be sure to achieve your year-end goals? Is it dials, prospect contacts, service calls? How about appointments held per week or referrals? Whatever it is, just commit to it and do it daily and don’t go home before you get it done. If you have to fall short one day (or week), don’t take a bye…carry it forward and catch up later. You’ll be glad you did and you’ll be able to achieve things that you may have never thought possible.
